With an Open Door policy and an attractive business environment, Vietnam in recent years has attracted a large amount of investment capital from foreign investors. To facilitate the entry and exit as well as the long-term stay of foreign investors in Vietnam, the Government of Vietnam has granted these investors a type of visa with many outstanding incentives.
What is a visa issued to foreign investors?
Foreign investors or representatives of foreign organizations shall be granted a type of visa with many outstanding incentives.
Pursuant to the Law on entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, “DT” stands for the visa that is granted to foreign investors.
Types of DT for foreign investor and their validity
Pursuant to the Law on entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, the DT is divided into 04 different types:
Conditions to extend the validity of DT
Firstly, the passport is a pre-existing document, which is one of the important documents needed to issue a visa. Thus, the condition to extend the DT is that the passport must be valid.
Secondly, because the DT offers many outstanding incentives, so to extend this type of visa, the applicant for extension must provide documents proving that their investment is still ongoing in Vietnam.

The procedure for extending the validity of DT
Step 1: Dossier preparation
Prepare a set of documents mentioned above.
Step 2: Submitting the dossier
The applicant can submit the dossier to the immigration authorities:
The Immigration Department – Ministry of Public Security, or
The Immigration Office – Provincial-level or Municipal-city Public Security in which the applicant resides.
Step 3: Processing the dossier and return the result
The process shall last for 05 – 07 working days.
The result shall be returned after the investor finish the extension fee as prescribed in Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC:
